The website I found the ad in the previous post on really made me think about the differences in controversial advertising for social issues and material goods. WARNING: this next commercial is pretty explicit....This commercial, shown on MTV, warns young people of the dangers of unprotected sex and the importance of getting tested. It is definitely shocking and very disturbing but it is obviously for a greater good. It is much easier to watch this commercial, knowing that it might save people from the terrible disease of AIDS. In the Gucci ad, found in the previous post, it is much harder to get past the shocking nature of the advertisement. Where is the greater good in this? It's shocking for the sake of being shocking and nothing else.
